Open Studio Recap

Six Months of Artistic Exploration

In August of 2024, I had the opportunity to open my studio doors and share six months of studio work during my artist residency. The day(s) were filled with energy, meaningful conversations, and a deep connection with everyone who attended, in person and virtually via IG Live. A moment to reflect on the experience and show my gratitude to all who made it a memorable event…

The Atmosphere

Walking into the studio, the first thing you’d notice was the creativity that filled the space. Each corner, alive with color, texture, and emotion, showcasing the evolution of work over the past six months. The walls filled with pieces that explored themes of constellations, energy connections, and the complex interplay of erasure and replacement—a series that has pushed my boundaries as an artist.

The overall atmosphere of the studio was vibrant, with paintings arranged in a way that invited viewers to journey through different phases of my creative process. The layout shows the progression of my work, leading guests from one piece to the next, each one building on the themes of the series.

Highlights from the Day

One of the most rewarding aspects of the open studio was the opportunity to engage with visitors. The conversations we had were rich with insight, as we discussed everything from the inspiration behind specific pieces to broader topics like the role of art in social justice and cultural identity.

This moment captured a meaningful exchange about how the constellation motifs in my work connect with our shared human experiences and cultural heritage. These interactions are what make events like this so special, allowing for a deeper connection between the artist and audience.

IG Live: Bringing the Studio to You

For those who couldn’t make it in person, I hosted an Instagram Live session directly from the studio. It was an amazing way to bring the energy of the event to a wider audience, allowing people to participate from wherever they were. During the live session, I walked viewers through the studio, shared the stories behind my work, and answered questions in real-time.

Looking Back and Moving Forward

It’s one thing to create in the solitude of a studio, but it’s another entirely to share that work with others and see how it touches, inspires, and provokes thought. This residency has been a period of growth and this event was the perfect way to celebrate that journey.

Final Thoughts

To everyone who attended, whether in person or virtually, thank you for being part of this experience. Your presence and participation made the event not just a showcase of my work, but a collaborative celebration of creativity and community. As I move forward, I’m excited to continue exploring new ideas, pushing boundaries, and sharing my journey with all of you.
