Recap of My Mural for NBC’s “George to the Rescue” at the Boys and Girls Club of Newark
I had the incredible opportunity to be part of a truly special episode of NBC’s "George to the Rescue", where I was commissioned to create a mural for the Boys and Girls Club of Newark, NJ. As part of George Oliphant’s mission to uplift communities and organizations, this project was focused on revitalizing the exterior of the Boys and Girls Club with an inspiring and vibrant mural.
The Story Behind the Episode
This episode of George to the Rescue was a heartwarming revisit to the Boys and Girls Club, a place George and his team had transformed back in 2013, creating a new and safe space for local kids. The show has now returned for Season 12, continuing its tradition of supporting communities and giving back. Alongside making repairs, George wanted to add something special to the building’s exterior that would brighten the space and reflect the energy and spirit of the children who call the Boys and Girls Club their home away from home. That’s where my mural came in.
The Vision for the Mural
The mural was designed to be a dynamic representation of hope, growth, and creativity, capturing the essence of what the Boys and Girls Club of Newark stands for. I worked closely with the team to develop a concept that would reflect the community’s spirit while making the exterior of the building more welcoming and inspiring for the children and families it serves.
Incorporating bold, abstract forms and vibrant colors, the mural was meant to inspire the kids every time they walked through the doors—reminding them that they are capable of achieving great things, that they are part of something bigger, and that their community is there to support them.
Working with "George to the Rescue"
Being a part of "George to the Rescue" was an amazing experience. George Oliphant and his team have built incredible relationships with families, organizations, and communities across the country. To be able to contribute to a project that has such a lasting impact on a local organization like the Boys and Girls Club was truly rewarding.
Not only did the mural provide an artistic transformation, but it also symbolized the continued growth and potential of the young people who benefit from the Boys and Girls Club’s services. Seeing the joy on their faces when they first saw the finished mural was priceless.
A Lasting Impact
This project, like many on "George to the Rescue", is about more than just a visual change—it’s about creating a lasting impact on the community. I’m honored to have been part of an episode that revisits some of the heroic individuals and organizations who continue to make a difference. The mural at the Boys and Girls Club of Newark is a small contribution to the bigger mission of ensuring that every child feels seen, supported, and inspired. Watch the full episode here.
